Change your living room with the seasons - without breaking the bank!

June 22, 2017

Is your living room a little out dated or in need of some love and care? Follow these two simple steps and you can have a living room that just keeps on giving... give your room a fresh look every three months, yes you read right, new season - new room!

Step 1 keep your main and most expensive items neutral - sofas, chairs, curtains, rug and other large furniture items.

Step 2 add pops of colour with your cushions, candles and prints.

There are plenty of colour options to choose from.... here I've chosen grey and white as my base colour, which also suits your winter living room perfectly.

The sofa featured is available from dfs, click here for info, prices start at €1079.

Rug from ikea, cushions and throw from H&M, table lamp, ceiling shade and mirror all available in Argos and lantern is from Meadows & Byrne.

Winter is over - time for spring! To update your space with minimal effort adding a splash of colour to a neutral backdrop is so simple. A few yellow cushions and some yellow flowers is a cheap option and oh so cheerful. To add even more feel good yellow, some nice pictures or a simple piece of furniture like the table below by habitat (available in Argos).

Cushions are from next and the ceiling shade is from Argos. One of my top tips for upgrading lighting in an affordable way is to stick with shades, there is such a fantastic range available out there and so affordable.

Next up is blush pink for summer. Again such an easy look to achieve swap out your spring yellow for pops of pink. Here I've changed the yellow cushions and flowers for pink and the ceiling shade in a soft blush colour for a change from the grey. I've added some copper accessories and a pink throw. You don't need to change your rug I just used a different one here also from Ikea and either will work in any of the designs.

The cushions, throw, frame and tealight holder are all H&M (they have such a fantastic and affordable range of homewares).

The trees outside may be losing their green leaves but you can bring the green inside for Autumn - Mint green in particular works so well with grey. Again your sitting room can be updated in just a few minutes. Before you put your feet up in your minty fresh room put your pink accents away in the attic until next year and add your mint green cushions and new light shade.

The key things to remember are to keep your more costly items such as sofas and chairs a neutral colour and then add pieces like throws, cushions and candles in an accent colour. Remember be brave and just go for it!
